Thanks to Perth International Jazz Festival for a great weekend. We had the awesome 6 piece version of the Mitch Boag group and talented Tedde from ECU playing jazz with soul, country, hip hop and rock elements.
You can catch our free jazz in the courtyard on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month (and the 5th Thursday if there is one) with The Fix who’ve been our resident jazz band since 2004 and change with guests every time.
Thanks to everyone who made Fringe World so amazing this year! There were record attendances and Perth/Northbridge was brimming with life. We really enjoyed being a Fringe venue for the first time! We survived 24 hours of non-stop comedy madness with the 24 hour Big Hoo-Haa and we can tell you first hand that the 6am sun was brutal but what a night it was! We also hosted British comedian Matt Price on his first trip to Australia and we exhibited the colourful works of the lovely Kerry Brooks.
We also experienced our busiest day and night of trade in 11 years on Valentine’s Day while The Giants wandered the streets of Northbridge. What a huge month!
To celebrate our family’s 11 years of ownership we threw a Halloween Party in true moon tradition with the help of Retro Rocket Events! It was our best Halloween ever, a banging party with performances by Shotdown From Sugartown, fire-dancer Ms Brandy Savage, snake-dancer Ariel and DJs Gidget Duck & Nathan J! Complete with moon punch flowing all night from the intravenous drip in a mannequin’s arm hanging from the ceiling and some completely unplanned limbo! Few sore heads the next day we rekon..
Thanks for celebrating with us!
Here are some incredible, candid portrait shots taken by local dude Matsu Photography. A seriously impressive photographer.. Maybe you’re in there somewhere?

The Moon’s been in our family for just over 11 years now.
Considering most of 2013, our 10th year, was taken up with the birth of Georgia’s first child, 2014 finally felt like the year for changes we’d been waiting to make for several years.
It was a shock to many when our menu changed. It had been virtually the same for about 15 years with slight modifications every few. Somewhere along the line of its 25 year history The Moon achieved ‘institution’ status in Perth so it holds a unique place in the hearts of many locals. Changing anything is a risky business..
What we have now though is a far more manageable menu for our small kitchen that is open to the option of changing with the seasons, features far more healthy options for late night diners, reduces wastage and pays homage to its past.
We also decided to brighten the place up a bit! It had been a pretty messy 90s multi-colour for a long while. The Moon was the first place in Perth to adopt that mix & match style with kitch furniture, record cover menus and a different lick of paint on each wall… so most of those things we had to keep.. But we focused a little more on the Art Deco elements inside and the 60s/70s lounge-room outside.. We hope to add a few plants soon too!
All in all.. it’s been a pretty amazing experience getting some new wind under our sails and giving The Moon the spruce up it so desperately needed!
