KSP Poetry Anthology “Thistledown” Launch

2-4pm, Saturday 26 September

Perth Poetry Club – where slams meet sonnets!
Every Sunday from 2-4pm

We have eight poetic treats this Saturday at Perth Poetry Club.
The first is the launch of the KSP Poetry Anthology “Thistledown”.
The Poets at KSP are a diverse group of writers who meet twice monthly to write and offer friendly critique at The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers Centre in the leafy hills of Greenmount.  Thistledown is their 8th anthology and includes poetry from acclaimed poet, Ron Pretty, who says: “Thistledown ranges widely through the natural world, aspects of childhood, and the passions and trials of maturity. The poems are notable for their variety of structure, their delight in language and the telling phrase; and for their sense of restraint and decorum which gives so many of them their power. It’s an anthology to be read and savoured many times over.”

Thistledown is to be launched at the Club by poet Jackson with six other KSP poets reading from the anthology: Shey Marque, Mardi May, Gail Robinson, Flora Smith, Rose Van Son and Anna Wright.  Jackson will finish proceedings with a poem by Ron Pretty, KSP’s 2015 guest poet.

Also Zainab Z. Syed, who is representing WA at the Australian Slams in early October, is attending the Club for some Slam practice.  The idea is to apply some performance pressure on her to replicate conditions at the Sydney Opera House.   She will deliver her slam pieces (three in number) at various times during the gig.  Imagine transforming The Moon Café into the Sydney Opera House.

Utzon might turn in his grave, but he would still be there this Saturday for the poetry at The Moon Café 323 William Street Northbridge, 2pm-4pm – open-mike as always.
